IF YOU ARE A NEWCOMER TO CANADA BETWEEN THE AGES OF 8 and 24, THIS PROGRAM IS FOR YOU!
Description of our Youth Host Program
Our Youth Host Program, known as, Mentoring Mosaic, is designed to help newcomers overcome the stress of moving to a new country by matching youth with a mentor who is familiar with Canadian culture. The mentors will help youth learn about available services within the community, practice English or French language, develop contacts in their employment field, develop peer relationships at school and participate in community events and activities. Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Bay and District will work under the philosophy that integration is a two-way process which allows mentors and newcomers to relate on a personal level and develop an understanding of their respective cultures.
Two specific programs are available for Newcomer Youth:
Mentoring Mosaic Group Program: scheduled groups that meet regularly with participants attending when the topic is of interest to him/her. Groups will be youth led. Group programs will also consist of a number of different activities such as a day trips to different northern attraction sites and camping trips. Please keep in mind that all of our activities are FUN & FREE.
Mentoring Mosaic One-to-One Mentoring Program: newcomer youth is matched with a local volunteer. Match is based on fun and friendship, learning and new experiences. This program is for newcomers who have specific individual needs. A matched newcomer is also welcome to participate in group programs.
If you have any questions or want to talk more about our program, I encourage you to call or email me. I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
K'Sah Woodley
